Some Random Wonderings About Twitter

Published by thunderjack at 11:13 pm under Twitter Services Edit This

I just wanted to share a few random things about Twitter.

First off, in my last post, I said I’d tell you about another RSS service that will allow you to have your latest blog posts send out a tweet for you automatically.

The other service I have tried and use currently (other than easytweets.com) is twitterfeed.com.  I have to say…if you try it, don’t use myvidoop to login with openID.  I’ve had to re-login 5 times and each time you have to jump through 20 hoops….

Next thought: Twitter said recently that they have 10 million users, that they grew by 30% in Feb 09, and that they’re aware of over 2000 apps/sites/plugins, etc that are dedicated to Twitter.

2000!!!

And here I thought I knew about more apps than your average person…but not that much.  Holy cow.

Lastly, I wondered if anyone here reading this today (or any time in the future) could comment on the following thoughts.  Basically, I want to know if Twitter autoreplies/autoresponses actually HELP you in any way.

I always thought that autoreplies make sense.  If you’re not sure what I mean, I’m talking about when you follow someone, and you get a reply saying, “Thanks for following me; make sure to read blahblahblah”.

To me, that makes sense.  But I have read several bloggers say they hate such things, and instantly unfollow anyone that uses such a service.  Ok…that’s a little extreme.  Why?  Why unfollow someone because they wanted to be in touch with you in that manner?  I don’t hate those autoreplies.  I don’t use them anymore, but they don’t make me mad when I see them.

Should I get mad that people aren’t being “personal” with me?  Actually, it bugs me a little when people send me personalized “thank-you” notes. Maybe it’s because I can’t see myself sending 100 personalized thank-you’s per day.  That’s crazy.

In the next few days, I’ll look at some of the many services that allow you to send those autoreplies.

Oh!  But has anyone ever seen a study that proves that an autoreply with your URL actually drives more traffic to your site….?  Or does it cause you to lose followers almost as fast as you gain them?

Maybe I’ll try it….
